7 Wrestling Dream Matches That Sucked (When They Finally Happened)

4. Sting Vs. Hollywood Hogan (WCW Starrcade 1997)

Eric Bischoff deserves a medal for showing supreme restraint and refusing to cash in on a match people were begging for until the time was right. He'd identified Starrcade 1997 as the ideal place to re-debut a mute, vigilante version of Sting. Over one year of stalking the nWo and pointing at the group's leader Hollywood Hogan would come to a head on WCW's biggest annual pay-per-view.

Then that pesky bell had to ring.

It's not Bischoff or Hogan's fault that Sting didn't show up in great physical condition. Noticeably smaller and less muscular than he had been before as a bleach-blonde hero, this new anti-hero from the shadows looked like he hadn't spent much time in the gym. It was a bit of a letdown that the Hogan match was a one-sided squash too.

WCW lifers wanted Sting to shut the nWo down and rampage through Hollywood like nobody else had since Hogan turned heel in '96. That didn't happen. Instead, everyone was "treated" to heel Hulk kicking babyface Sting's ass all over the ring before WCW booked a screwy, unsatisfying finish.
