7 Wrestling Matches You Won't Believe Actually Happened

1. AJ Lee Vs. Bayley

There was a time when 'AJ' to WWE fans didn't mean a phenomenal flat-earther, but a prototypical 'anti-Diva' with the longest 'women's title reign under her, well, belt. Despite actually instigating the Women's Revolution with a set of barbed Twitter comments, AJ Lee has since been scrubbed from company history, owing to her choice of spouse, rather conveniently allowing Stephanie McMahon to take credit for WWE's reversal on their maligned female talent.

One of the biggest beneficiaries of Lee's campaign was Bayley, a wrestling nerd who for a variety of reasons would have struggled to excel under the Laurinaitis-led 'Diva' doldrums. The two might be emblematic of different eras, but fascinatingly, they actually wrestled in NXT, at a time when WWE would habitually send main roster talent to boost attendance.

The up-and-coming Hugger was on a five-match losing streak at the time, and couldn't stop the rot against a champion a month into her record-setting 295-day reign with the division's then top title. She's done alright for herself since, though.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
