7 WWE Gimmicks That Totally Personify Vince McMahon
3. 'Connecticut Blueblood' Hunter Hearst Helmsley
When Triple H debuted as Hunter Hearst Helmsley in 1995, McMahon could be heard spitting on commentary about how he couldn't "stand" Hunter "because it's almost like he's lowering himself to compete". There was anger in his voice, and it came from the same place that caused him to rebel against established authority as a teenager.
Vince's neighbours in the affluent Stamford, Connecticut viewed his WWF as low brow, base entertainment, and that didn't sit well with him. His hatred of judgemental snobs peering down their ample noses at his life's work was the direct inspiration for "Connecticut Blueblood" Helmsley's creation.
Hunter was, for all intents and purposes, there to run an in-house commentary on those who giggled at McMahon's circus.
How dare they sneer at his projects. F*ck them for never accepting him into their world of broadsheet newspapers, cocktail parties or caviar dreams. HHH was a gimmick born out of Vince's distaste for his fellow millionaires.
