7 WWE Main Events You Won't Believe Didn't Close A PPV
3. Money In The Bank 2012
Match That Closed The Show: WWE Championship Money In The Bank Ladder Match: They say lightning can never strike twice in the same place, well this happened three times in the same year. 8 if you count all of them. Out of the 11 times Punk defended his title at a PPV in 2012, he only closed the show 3 of them. 2 involved John Cena and the other, Hell In A Cell, Cena was injured and unable to compete. It comes as no surprise that a match John Cena was involved in would end a pay-per-view, even if it goes against the entire concept of the PPV itself. The Match That Should Have Closed The Show: CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan, WWE Championship, No DQ. The whole concept behind the MITB is having that element of surprise of not knowing when the briefcase holder will cash in. Putting the actual Money In The Bank match on after the title match it lines up with, completely takes away any chance the winner will cash in that same night. And at the same time needlessly strips your show of that added drama at the end of the night. You don't have to look any further than the opening clip of this very show, where they replayed Edge cashing in on John Cena, to see just how exciting that element of surprise can be.
