7 WWE Money In The Bank Winners That Flopped

7. CM Punk (The First Time)

CM Punk is the only legitimate two time Money in the Bank winner. He won the match at WrestleMania 24 in 2008 and WrestleMania 25 in 2009. Both wins were surprises because we really didn't think Punk was going to be elevated the first time and the second time it was shocking because usually the MITB winner was somebody new. He cashed in on Edge on the June 30, 2008 edition of Raw to become the World Heavyweight Champion after Batista destroyed Edge. It was one of those awesome Raw moments that really made Punk look like a bigger deal. Punk's first reign as World Champion was boring because his feuds with Batista and JBL were not seen as main event level storylines. Sure, he had the World Title on the line, but it never felt special. Then he lost the title without having a match. He was beat up by Randy Orton's Legacy group in a backstage segment and then punted by Orton as a way to write him out for a bit. On the WWE produced DVD about his career, Punk said they wanted to move the title over to Chris Jericho's feud with Shawn Michaels so that's what they did. During the ten plus years of WWE's era with two major World Titles, there were a number of people that were not booked well as a secondary champion. Punk was one of them. At least his second MITB win was great. He used it to turn heel against Jeff Hardy in 2009 and become one of the best performers in the company. It's a shame that the first reign wasn't nearly as memorable with only 69 days as the World Champion.
