The New Day are seriously treading water right now. By desperately keeping the tag team titles on the trio in order to break Demolition's record, WWE put the division and the champions into stasis, and one year after being arguably the most popular act in the company The New Day find themselves relegated to hosting duties at the 'Show of Shows'.

The New Day's role at WrestleMania 33 will see them appear in a number of segments and shill all sorts of merchandise, and in some ways this has become the point of the act. The fact that Big E., Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods are three of the most talented wrestlers in the company has been overlooked in favour of blindingly colourful merchandise and ice cream.

By giving New Day the host role, WWE creative has pretty much shown their hand in that they have nothing for the trio right now. They will sell a lot of merchandise, but in years to come this may well be looked back at as a waste of time for the former two-time champs.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
