Edge underwent a complete character transformation following his Money in the Bank win at WrestleMania 21. Thanks to his hot feud with Matt Hardy in the summer of 2005, he became one of the most hated heels on the entire roster almost overnight and rode that wave of momentum well into the new year.

At the onset of 2006, Edge successfully cashed in his opportunistic briefcase on John Cena to clinch the WWE Championship for the first time in his career. That should have set him up for a marquee match at WrestleMania 22 with Cena chasing the champion heading into the event, but WWE cut their storyline short by having the Cenation leader regain the gold three weeks later at the Royal Rumble.

To be fair, a Hardcore match with Mick Foley at WrestleMania was hardly a bad consolation prize for The Rated-R Superstar, but that WrestleMania main event should have been his that year. In fact, his outing against Foley is arguably the real attraction of the show considering how it wound up being the best bout of the night.

Edge vs. Cena one-on-one in a rematch at WrestleMania or a Triple Threat with Triple H would have made more sense, though.
