8 Awesome WWE Matches Ruined By DQ Finishes

3. The Rock Vs. Triple H - Over The Edge 1999

Unfortunately overshadowed by the heartbreaking tragedy that happened earlier that night, this bout between The Rock and Triple H has all but been lost to time. With Jim Ross breaking the news that Owen Hart had died just moments before their match was to begin, the weight of carrying on with the show must have been truly overwhelming for the performers. But despite the horrific circumstances casting a pall over the rest of the show, Triple H and Rock actually managed to produce one of their most compelling matches, at least from a narrative standpoint. This is the match that unofficially earned Triple H the title of 'The Cerebral Assassin', as he showed a rare viciousness and aggression in going after The Rock's injured arm, which had been put in a cast following an attack from a previous week's Raw (Triple H would go on to break the plaster cast right off when bashing the arm against the announce table, which looked a bit ridiculous, but it got the point across). There was some great ring psychology and an impressive level of tension, considering the tone of the whole night. Aaaaand then Triple H pushes the referee and punches him in the face and gets disqualified. Just like that, any momentum and goodwill the two of them managed to build up over the course of their match just gets zapped out of the arena. Now, to be fair, if one of their matches had to end in such an incredibly slapdash manner, it should be the one that everyone was going to forget because of the surrounding tragedy, anyhow. But did it have to end this stupidly?
