Batista returned to WWE to much fanfare in 2014, having left whilst arguably doing his best work four years earlier in 2010. The Animal was back, and he immediately made an impact by winning the Royal Rumble and going on to main event WrestleMania XXX. Sounds like a pretty fantastic return, right?

Well, the only problem was that Batista was brought back as a babyface. Vince McMahon was probably the only individual interested in seeing Batista as a face in 2014, and the crowd, furious their real hero Daniel Bryan had been snubbed, subsequently took a collective dump all over Big Dave's grand return.

Once a planned program with Alberto Del Rio was completed, Batista settled into a de facto heel role before completing his turn in time for the triple threat match at WrestleMania. He took the fall in that match, and this was another victory for the WWE Universe.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
