8 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE Survivor Series 2017
2. A Car Crash Main Event
TLC 2017's main event succeeded for all the wrong reasons.
A bloated, convoluted mess, it featured every single bad WWE trope, yet still delivered 35 minutes of entertaining car crash TV. Everything from the heels throwing Braun Strowman in the garbage truck to Kurt Angle's awkward entrance with The Shield was preposterous, but WWE successfully captured lightning in a bottle, and somehow created one of 2017's most enjoyable pay-per-view main events.
Given TLC's accidental success, there's a strong chance WWE will attempt to recreate the magic in Survivor Series' men's elimination match, but this would be a mistake. TLC was an anomaly. Such overbooked layouts usually produce unwatchable dreck, yet the wacky lineup (including wrestlers as diverse as Triple H, Shane McMahon, and Braun Strowman) suggests that's exactly what WWE will shoot for.
They'd be wiser to take a similar approach to last year's bout, which refused to conform to WWE's worst tropes, resulting in a story-based epic that didn't outstay its welcome despite its 53-minute runtime. A similar plan is exactly what the 2017 incarnation needs, because WWE will inevitably wet the bet if they go for another TLC.
And please, for the love of God, keep Jason Jordan away from this...
