8 Biggest Chop Masters In Wrestling History

4. Wahoo McDaniel

Wahoo McDaniel was a wrestler from the Territory era who wrestled primarily in the southern United States. In other words, he wrestled in a traditional territory during a period where everything was presented as realistically as possible.

As such, the wrestlers tended to use stiff strikes at times to really sell their strength and legitimacy as performers. McDaniel did this by performing some of the most painful chops ever experienced in professional wrestling.

Working with a Native American gimmick, McDaniel’s signature move was the overhead Tomahawk chop, a move that caused his opponents considerable pain. Sgt. Slaughter, one of McDaniel’s regular opponents, still has scars from when McDaniel would chop him so hard that he’d break the skin and make him bleed.

Slaughter had to receive stitches in his chest to close the wound that he got on his chest…from a Wahoo McDaniel chop. According to Slaughter himself, “when you’d get hit, your ears would ring, and the pain would go from your chest to your toes.”

And that’s from maybe one or two chops; McDaniel would often throw up to four or five chops in a row, and not always to the chest. Sometimes, if you made him mad or if you tried to block his chops, he’d hit you harder and even chop you in the face.

Now imagine how quickly someone in today’s WWE would get over as a credible badass if they made someone bleed in the chest from a single chop…
