3. Ric Flair

You can’t talk about the greatest knife-edge chops without discussing the man that made using said move so wildly popular, Ric Flair. For decades, Flair would hit his opponents as hard as possible with a knife-edge chop, and the crowd would likewise respond with a ‘WOOOOO’ chant each time he hit his opponent.

This is one of the few gimmick moves that has managed to withstand the test of time. Even as Flair approached his retirement (at least in WWE) in 2008, he would still get a booming reaction from the audience whenever he hit a knife-edge chop.

Though it might not have been as painful or as technically-precise as other wrestlers or when Flair was younger, his opponents’ reactions when they were getting chopped in the chest told a different story. At one point in WWE, Vince forbade everyone on the roster, even some of their most respected chop masters, from using the knife-edge chop because he wanted it to be associated exclusively with Ric Flair.

Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed, and many other WWE Superstars were able to chop their opponents into submission. Although some might have been critical of the knife-edge chop for its lack of realism and overemphasis on theatricality, the fact remains that Flair was able to make a career out of getting a huge reaction from the crowd.
