8 Biggest Jon Jones Controversies
2. Failing A Drug Test Following UFC 214
By now it should be clear how strong the rivalry between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier truly is. Despite Jones' issues with performance-enhancing drugs, he and DC both agreed that Cormier's legacy as champion could not be cemented until their rematch.
After initially being slated and cancelled from UFC 200, the fighters would finally get their opportunity to once again compete in the cage just over a year later at UFC 214.
After an evenly matched opening two rounds, Jones exposed a flaw in Cormier's defence, cracking the then-champion with a picture-perfect head kick before ending the fight with a display of ruthlessly efficient ground and pound.
Looking utterly dejected, Cormier spoke after the fight to congratulate Jones for his performance and say that Jones' victories in both fights meant that the rivalry was over. Jones even showed his class in the post-fight press conference by remarking how hard it was to see his opponent cry after their fight and remarking that Cormier is a great ambassador for the sport.
This goodwill was eradicated just days after the event when a post-fight drug test revealed that Jones had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, with the title returned to Cormier and the bout ruled a no contest. Jones was now facing his third suspension from the UFC in the latest of a series of drug-related incidents.
