Hey, remember a decade or so when WWE still had the brand split? Half of the roster was on RAW, the other half on SmackDown. Which of those two shows do you remember being the better? It was the blue one wasn't it, the one with the wrestling. It was also a taped show, and over the years a mixture of a weaker roster and the apathy that taped professional wrestling brings turned SmackDown into RAW-lite.

It is an unfortunate illness in the modern world of professional wrestling that man fans (especially new ones) are more interested in the result as opposed to the action. The internet is full of spoilers, articles out of spoilers are created, and the feeling is that if you've read the spoilers there isn't much point in seeing the show.

NXT is still a taped show, and the first signs of this apathy crept in during the road to Dallas. A huge batch of episodes were taped at the beginning of the year, in which Austin Aries and Shinsuke Nakamura were introduced to the show and the TakeOver: Dallas card was set.

For those of us who sat through the taped shows all the way up to the event, the lethargy of the entire situation was apparent towards the final episodes. When the final one finished, a sigh of relief escaped, acknowledging that this trying period was over.

Maintaining an invigorating taped television show in the internet age is a difficult task, to say the least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
