8 Booking Steps To Save The WWE Cruiserweight Title
3. Write Spin Off Feuds To Complement The Title One
By fostering such a competitive environment centred around actual wrestling matches, WWE would be writing the show for themselves. Spin-off feuds separate from the Cruiserweight Title (but crucially focused on getting to that belt in the long run) would start automatically. Having more personal issues on the show has to be considered a good thing.
Seeing someone like Mustafa Ali run out to cost Tony Nese a match because both have heat makes sense. It's simple, logical booking and would require next-to-no effort from the writing team. This frees them up to concentrate on the much more convoluted Raw and SmackDown shows, but doesn't dismiss 205 Live as throwaway.
Every match would have a point to it. OK, so this isn't going to appeal to everyone, but would a tightly-woven series of rankings and offshoot feuds turn anyone who already watches the show away? We doubt it. There are worse ideas than trying to develop the cruiserweights as title-hungry warriors.
