8 Controversial WWE Finishes That Actually Worked

7. Night Of Champions 2012

CM Punk versus John Cena, while not exactly this generation's Austin versus Rock, was a damn fine feud, easily one of the best of the past five years. The two men had incredible chemistry in the ring and produced several awesome matches on TV and PPV, including a genuine classic at Money in the Bank 2011. Another belter between the pair occurred at Night of Champions 2012. The two had their customary great match filled with breathless nearfalls (including an awesome Cena kickout of a Rock Bottom) before a rabid crowd. After twenty five minutes of action, Cena realised he had to do something special to beat Punk and busted out a rarely seen second rope german suplex. The move put Punk down for three but, unfortunately for Cena, he didn't have the energy to bridge properly and his shoulders were counted along with Punk's. The match was a rare draw, but a sporting one, which set up a rematch at Survivor Series (also featuring Ryback).
