8 Craziest Stories Told On The Joe Rogan Experience

4. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts' Dar Past -  #1205

Many WhatCulture readers will already be familiar with the story of Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, a man whose life has seen so many peaks and troughs it would look like a mountain range if plotted on a graph.

However, Roberts' appearance on the JRE with comedian Tony Hinchliffe in 2018 exposed the pro wrestling legends stories to a different audience, with Roberts describing some of the horrific abuse he had experienced as a child and how it had affected his career throughout his life.

The fantastic 1999 documentary Beyond the Mat captured Roberts during one of the lowest points during his professional life, showing his drug addiction spiralling out of control leading to the downfall of both his career as a wrestler and his relationship with his family. A particularly telling moment of the documentary sees the complex relationship with Roberts and his abusive father captured on film.

Despite the unimaginable trauma that Roberts has suffered throughout his life, his appearance on the JRE sees the former wrestler rejuvenated thanks to the help of his friend and fellow WWE alumn Diamond Dallas Page. To see Roberts both sober, and at peace with his life, despite the suffering he has endured, leads to a great podcast with an inspiring tale of redemption.

Roberts proves throughout the episode that he is the living embodiment of Scott Hall's famous maxim. "Bad times don't last, but bad guys do."
