8 Dream Fights For Jon Jones As A UFC Heavyweight

5. Curtis Blaydes

Apart from the obvious fights with the likes of Miocic and Ngannou, which I'd sacrifice a limb to see, Curtis Blaydes is my favourite potential matchup for Jones at heavyweight. If the most recent win for "Razor" Blaydes is anything to go by, a dominant performance from the 14-2 heavyweight might not lead to the most exciting of fights, but there's little chance Jones, his impeccable defence and unique style would let that happen. Instead what we could get, is a back-and-forth between Jones' intelligent defence and the perseverance of Blaydes' takedown attack.

Having only been taken down by Alexander Gustafsson in his career, the UFC's number one pound-for-pound fighter has built a reputation for maintaining his position on the feet. Despite this, the storyline in this dream fight would be whether Jones could withstand the takedown attempts from Blaydes, which a recent UFC Fight Pass package showed boast the same force as an NFL tackle.

Holding the UFC heavyweight takedown record, Blaydes certainly possesses an ability to drag his opponent to the canvas better than, or at least equal to that of Gustafsson, and we know MMA math isn't a thing but it would be naïve to suggest Blaydes wouldn't have a chance at taking Jones down, especially given his size and strength. The intrigue then turns into Jones' wrestling versus that of Blaydes, and isn't that a delightful image?

I'd expect a fascinating five-round contest, in which one of the fighters would lose their perfect decision record. Maybe we could see Jones versus Blaydes sooner rather than later, with the winner going on to face the victor of Miocic and Ngannou's predicted title fight, that is should Blaydes get past Derrick Lewis in their upcoming meeting. I'm no matchmaker but that sounds good to me...
