8 Dream Fights For Jon Jones As A UFC Heavyweight

1. Alistair Overeem

Who'd have thought we'd be even be thinking about a fight between Alistair Overeem and Jon Jones, let alone be in a position where it's actually a big possibility? What better test of Jones' heavyweight mettle than a clash with one of the division's most impressive veterans and physical units?

Despite never winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship, "The Reem" has beaten some of the top names over the past decade including Mark Hunt, Fabricio Werdum, Junior Dos Santos, Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar, and even with a knockout loss in December, Overeem has looked in good form. With wins against Aleksei Oleinik, Sergei Pavlovich and Walt Harris, as well as being just seconds away from being the first man to defeat Jairzinho Rozenstruik (in the end he practically lost his lip...), Overeem's only other blemishes in the past three years have come against two top heavyweights in Francis Ngannou and Curtis Blaydes.

Considered one of the best-rounded fighters in the division, Overeem's kickboxing experience could provide an interesting battle below the waist with Jones, and should they meet, the Dutchman would certainly look to use his strength to clinch Jones and deliver his famed knee strikes. This strikes me as the kind of dream fight people don't realise they want until they think more into it, but on paper it really could be a fascinating matchup. Plus, how great would it be for English MMA if a fighter born in the country became the first to decisively beat the great Jon Jones?
