8 Epic Wrestling Matches That Would Be Better If They Happened Now
5. Samoa Joe Vs. Jay Lethal
Most of the matches on this list could happen fairly easily, given that in those examples, the competitors mentioned are currently working for the same promotion. That's not the case here - Samoa Joe is a star on SmackDown, while Jay Lethal is the MVP of Ring of Honor. Still, it doesn't make this bout any less tantalizing.
Joe and Lethal first crossed paths in ROH, where Joe was the resident bad-ass and Lethal was a young up-and-comer. When Joe joined TNA, Lethal soon made an appearance to take him on, but the bout was little more than a glorified squash match. Lethal would end up joining TNA full time, and despite his poor usage, he had some great matches - among them, some bouts with Joe.
Still, over the past few years, Lethal has really come into his own as the franchise of Ring of Honor - the longest reigning TV Champion ever and a World Champion for over a year. It would be amazing, hypothetically, to see Joe return to ROH for an evening to face the man who holds the position he once did. Unfortunately, we shouldn't hold our breaths - it's purely fantasy booking.
