8 Greatest Face & Heel Turns In Modern Wrestling History
6. Wardlow Turns On MJF
One of the most enjoyable situations in AEW's early years came from MJF and his abysmal treatment of his personal bodyguard, Wardlow. Not only would the deplorable Maxwell Jacob Friedman have Wardlow interfere in his matches with infuriating regularity, he would then berate his physically superior accomplice for whatever reason he saw fit. It's pro wrestling 101, but it was damn effective.
Following months of contemplating his place as MJF's sidekick, and plenty of instances that felt like the moment had arrived, Wardlow finally broke free from his captor at the end of MJF and CM Punk's classic Dog Collar Match at Revolution 2022. Striding to the ring during the match's crescendo, the audience held their breath to see which way Wardlow's allegiances would swing.
Taking out MJF's trusty Dynamite Diamond Ring, Wardlow looked at the ring, looked up, and placed it on the ring apron for Punk to use and score the victory. The following weeks of Wardlow turning up and mangling up to 15 AEW security guards to get to Friedman were exhilarating. His destruction of MJF at Double Or Nothing is still the biggest asskicking AEW's golden boy has taken to date, and was the pinnacle of Wardlow's incredible face turn.
