8 Hidden Meanings Behind AEW All Out Attires

5. Cody - Star Trek

Seven Of Nine
AEW

Cody wrestled a more disciplined and safe match than most expected - those expectations were conditioned throughout the build, which was clearly indebted to his love of emotional, Jim Crockett Promotions bloodbaths - and he didn't really set the appropriate tone with his entrance.

Ahead of a match instigated by a brutal transgression of friendship and modern wrestling etiquette alike, Cody and his posse dressed up like characters from Star Trek. It was a jarring, borderline comedic visual that hardly affected the atmosphere - Cody was over as the company's undisputed babyface, even more so than Kenny Omega - but didn't do an awful lot to put Shawn Spears over as a dangerous threat to be taken with the utmost seriousness.

It was also indulgent: he dressed up as a captain of a Star Trek ship to either convey his authority in the Executive Vice President role or because he is a gigantic nerd, one of the two. Or both, since Cody is often guilty of canvassing his major matches with a litany of tropes and themes.

The match was overbooked, and indulgent, but it was dramatic, heated, cornball fun, all the same.
