8 Horribly Outdated Wrestling Acts

3. The Vaudevillians

The Vaudevillians aren’t listed here to be ironic like “they’re outdated because they’re from the 1920s!” No, they’re here because their act is awful, cartoonish and was destined to run out of steam within weeks. There was simply no other way. The Midnight Express in their prime couldn't have made this gimmick work.

Nearly 20 years ago, Vince McMahon went on TV and told us that the audience was tired of having their intelligence insulted, and that we wanted more from our wrestling characters. It’s amazing that not only did he forget that speech, and continued insulting our intelligence, but he went another 60 years back into the past with these two.

The Vaudevillians feel more like something you’d see on WCW’s old Saturday Morning Show in the early 90s. Even then, no one would have cared. It’s a weird gimmick that doesn't make any sense, because it’s never been defined. It’s two guys who like the way life was before penicillin...or they like silent films, or they want Woodrow Wilson back in office? Or...I don’t know!

Well, whatever they’re supposed to be, it's not working, and they likely won't be around much longer for these modern times.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
