WrestleMania 34’s main event has been on the cards for a while now. As soon as Lesnar became Universal Champion at WM 33, it was reported that he’d hold the belt for a full calendar year, then drop it to Roman Reigns in New Orleans. There’s been talk of WWE hot-shotting those plans and executing Roman’s big win at SummerSlam instead, and given the fresh doubt over Brock’s future, this is now a distinct possibility.

If WWE feel they can’t retain Lesnar, they may choose to remove him from the spotlight before long, even though they have him under contract until April. They’d of course forgo any potential revenue that could be made by booking Brock on top until his departure, but would also avoid the predictability of a ‘Mania 34 title loss.

The Universal Title is still waiting for a defining champion after Finn Balor’s forced vacation, Kevin Owens’ terrible run, and Goldberg’s brief, pointless spell. Lesnar, as the company’s biggest special attraction, is the right man to elevate its prestige, but WWE may decide against building their main event around someone who won’t be part of their future.
