This seems like the next logical step in the Rusev story. He had a big feud with Jack Swagger leading up to SummerSlam because of his Real American gimmick. Next up was Mark Henry with WWE pushing that he competed in the Olympics for America. Both of them are former World Champions with Henry seen as a bigger star than Swagger. Since Big Show was teaming up with Mark Henry briefly, it makes sense that he would be the next challenger for Rusev. Big Show would be the biggest test for Rusev to this point. He's a four-time WWE World Champion (two times with each title) that is the largest man in the company. Even though Show really doesn't wrestle that often anymore, he's still a big name with a lot of credibility. Seeing Rusev topple the giant would do wonders for Rusev's career and push. Whether the feud leads to one PPV match or two, expect Rusev to be the winner in the end. He's being built up for an eventual matchup with John Cena. Whether that takes place at WrestleMania or before it, we don't know yet. We just know it's probably going to happen.
