8 Most Embarrassing Moments In MMA History

7. Bob Sapp's Combat Sports Career Post 2010

When Bob Sapp burst onto the combat sports scene in Japan at the turn of the millennium, fans knew they were witnessing something special. The freakishly athletic Sapp had previously enjoyed spells in the NFL, and the fact that he had decided to turn his attention to full-time face-punching was a terrifying prospect for many an MMA heavyweight.

Sapp's early career saw him utilise his unmatched size and speed to his advantage, winning his first two bouts and earning a fight with top contender Minotauro Nogueira. Sapp started the fight in emphatic fashion by countering a takedown attempt from his opponent with a piledriver that would make Jerry Lawler proud. Big Nog demonstrated his characteristic toughness in surviving though, and the bout ultimately went nearly 15 minutes with Sapp doing a great job at defending the BJJ expert's submissions before eventually succumbing to an armbar.

In the years that followed, Sapp cemented himself as one of the biggest stars in Japanese MMA thanks to his extreme power and over-the-top persona.

Unfortunately for the sport of MMA, Sapp eventually decided that it was no longer worth his while to absorb punishment in the pursuit of glory and started to submit at the first sign of danger in a fight. Since 2009 Sapp's record in the cage has been 2-17 with just three of those fights making it out of the first round.
