When The Usos were drafted to SmackDown Live in the 2016 brand split, they were expected to spearhead their tag team division and were heavy favourites to become the inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions - but that honour went to the unlikely duo of Heath Slater & Rhyno.

Many fans were also excited by the prospect of Jimmy & Jey feuding with American Alpha, who had been drafted to SmackDown from NXT. Although the two teams did have an on and off rivalry, the rather weak booking of both duos meant that the WWE Universe were never truly invested in the angle.

The Usos' heel turn back in September of 2016 did somewhat reinvigorate their personas, but not to the extent that people would have hoped. It wasn't until March of this year that Jimmy & Jey really began to turn some heads.
