8 Most Underrated Texas Wrestlers

2. Hernandez

Did you know that Hernandez has been a pro-wrestler for twenty years now? The 43-year-old TNA veteran was trained by Rudy Body Gonzalez and the Texas Wrestling Academy and made his debut in 1996. He primarily wrestled for the Texas All-Star Wrestling promotion while also doing job duty for WWF on shows like Jakked.

Hernandez started to become more well-known to American wrestling fans in the early 2000s when he made appearances for Ring of Honor and TNA. He was unceremoniously released from TNA in September 2004, however, and went back to work on the Texas indie scene.

When he was brought back into the fold in 2006 it was for a much more pronounced role: he would be teaming with indie mainstay Homicide in a team managed by Konnan known as the Latin American Xchange (LAX).

The two wrestlers gelled instantly and had some truly awesome matches against the team of Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles and America's Most Wanted. Despite then going on to challenge for the TNA World Title and teaming with Matt Morgan, this was the best, most fruitful period of Hernandez's TNA career.

The surprisingly agile Houston native also contested great matches alongside new teammate Chavo Guerrero in 2013, but their alliance didn't last too long. After Guerrero was released, TNA stopped using Hernandez and he was fired in May 2014.

Their loss was Lucha Underground's gain. The big man won the Lucha Underground Title from Prince Puma and successfully defended it against Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) in main event matches. Then, in a weird situation, he left LU to go back to TNA, but he was quickly released from that company, too.

Wherever he ends up, Hernandez is an asset. It's fair to say that he could have gone a whole lot further in TNA about a decade ago but, as it is, he's a damn fine performer who moves around with stunning grace for a man of his dimensions.
