8 Most Unthinkable WWE Changes Since Roman Reigns Became Champion
6. NXT's Makeover(s)
From a cheesy talent show format to an indie-driven product, NXT has gone through a number of changes throughout its 13 years but the latest rebrand was definitely the most significant of the lot.
August 2020 saw NXT host its 30th instalment of the beloved Takeover PPVs. Headlined by Karrion Kross beating Keith Lee for the NXT Championship, the event played out in front of nothing but cameras and plexiglass screens due to the pandemic shutdown which was a sign of things to come for the developmental brand.
Just a year later, NXT got a brand new lick of multicoloured paint and switched up its approach from 'indie darlings' to WWE's favoured college athlete direction. As part of this change, NXT remained at the Performance Center in Orlando hosting a limited attendance and has only since ventured out for recent PLEs. With Shawn Michaels taking full control, Tuesday nights are slowly morphing back into some element of what we saw in the brand's premier years which is generating positive talks around the growing fanbase.
While the in-ring wrestling and storytelling of the new era may not match that of its predecessor, the fresh approach is fitter for purpose in creating the stars of tomorrow and with the former NXT man Triple H at the helm of WWE creative, things are finally looking up for the company's developmental ranks.
