One common theme of Reigns' run as champion is the question of who will be the one to finally do the deed and take the title away from 'The Tribal Chief'.

Last month, every man, woman and child thought Cody Rhodes would be the one to do it. His numbers both in live events and merchandise sales were unmatched and the story on both sides of the fence was there. While that didn't come to pass, the sheer thought of this scenario went from undesirable to undeniable pretty quickly.

In October 2020, two months into Roman's reign, 'The American Nightmare' went toe-to-toe or rather neck-to-neck with the late Mr. Brodie Lee in a Dog Collar match. In what sadly became the last match of the former Luke Harper, Cody won the TNT title back and with that, the 'Codyverse' entered its finest hour.

Since then, we've been on what MJF would call the roller-Code-ster. From Reigns' Payback victory, Cody has dyed his hair black, won the TNT title, dyed his hair back to blonde, lost the TNT title, won the TNT title, lost the TNT title, left AEW, re-signed with WWE, returned at WrestleMania, tore his pectoral muscle, recovered from said injury, won the Royal Rumble match and finally got his match with Roman and still lost.

Cody is still the favourite to beat Reigns but who knows what long and winding road he will take before finally finishing the story.
