8 New Directions For WWE Champion Jinder Mahal

3. Throw Sami Zayn At Him

With John Cena absent and Kevin Owens and AJ Styles seemingly locked into a United States Title feud throughout the summer, Mahal’s title win represents a great opportunity to mint a new star. WWE have already done it with Jinder himself, but the brand’s babyface side is looking thin at the moment, and few fans would complain if the company finally decided to pull the trigger on Sami Zayn’s long-awaited push.

Zayn and Mahal are polar opposites. While Sami is sympathetic, spirited, and gutsy, Mahal is obnoxious, cowardly, and willing to take any available shortcut to victory. It’s a perfect clash of personalities, and while Zayn himself is lacking in credible wins, his underdog character doesn't require dominant presentation, and the story of him running through the Singhs to earn a shot at Mahal is almost too easy to tell.

Defeating Baron Corbin gives Zayn the momentum, and his screwy loss to Mahal a few weeks ago gives him the motivation. It’s hard to tell if either man will become a long-term WWE main eventer, but as a placeholder feud, Sami vs. Jinder could absolutely work, and would deliver on the fans’ long-held desire of seeing Zayn in a bigger spot.
