8 Reasons To Check Out See No Evil 2 This Halloween
5. The Fleshing Knife
Horror movie history is dotted with a number of iconic killers, each of whom had their own preferred weapon. Freddy Krueger had his iconic glove, complete with finger knives, that both tormented the kids in his movies and became one of the most popular Halloween props in the country. Jason Voorhees preferred a machete, which he used to hack his oversexed victims. Michael Myers employed a simple, yet highly effective, knife. Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre...that one should be fairly obvious. The point is, a slasher has to have a weapon that is readily associated with him. It's part of the package. Without it, the killer's lack the one element absolutely imperative to their recognition as an icon. In See No Evil 2, Jacob Goodnight has a number of medical implements at his disposal but it is one rarely seen that he chooses as his weapon of choice. As documented in the film's special features, the fleshing knife is a medical tool that is not used in the profession due to its rather large price tag. Still, the Soskas loved the weapon because it was a throwback to Goodnight's hook from the first film in that the knife itself was not only heavy, steel and serrated, it also hooked at the end. It is a weapon much more practical than the chain and hook that Goodnight utilized in the original and one that is just unique enough to set him apart from other monstrous villains. When he uses it for the first time, slicing a throat to the point that it obliterated the corroded artery and partially decapitated her, the viewer understands just how vicious the knife really is.
