8 Reasons Why Kevin Owens Is A Terrible Heel

2. He’s Subservient To The Authority

This is a problem that plagues basically every heel on the roster, except for maybe Brock Lesnar: why should anyone really fear Kevin Owens when The Authority is positioned as the end-all-be-all in WWE?

When Owens is in a segment with Stephanie McMahon, he basically has to suck up to her and act like he’s afraid for his job. She’s the real threat in the company, the only one with any power. If it weren’t for her, he’d be working at a gas station (a claim she alleged of The Big Show).

He’s not positioned as this wild, out of control wrestler who can’t be contained. His matches aren’t built up as a big deal. No one fears facing him in a match. He’s merely a pawn to The Authority, and you can imagine he'll someday be replaced with a newer model, because the show is about them. He's become a victim of one of wrestling’s most tired tropes, and one that continues to be incredibly damaging.

Owens doesn’t even seem like his own man, as much as he does an extension of Seth Rollins’ run with Hunter and Steph. It just feels that at anytime Hunter could sweep in, take the belt for himself and cast Owens aside. There's not much stopping the COO, as no one besides Roman Reigns has really been pushed as his equal over the past few years.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
