8 Reasons Why Today's WWE Raw Is WCW In Disguise
4. Championship Hot Potato
These days on Raw, it seems that championships are treated in one of two ways: either they’re rarely defended, like the United States or Universal belts, or they’re stuck in a game of hot potato.
The Cruiserweight Championship, for instance, has had four holders since its inception last September, with no reign lasting more than two months. That’s not great, but it’s also not quite as bad as the story of the Raw Women’s Championship.
In the last nine months, the top female prize has seen seven different reigns, five of which have lasted less than a month.
Again, the story’s somewhat reminiscent to that of WCW, when their World title was traded ridiculously often: 1999 saw the belt change hands 11 times, before 2000 blew that total out of the water with an astounding 18 title changes.
A telling example of this game of championship hot potato at large lies in Ric Flair's record with the belt. Of his eight WCW title reigns, only two lasted over 100 days, with another two clocking in at less than a week. Which, again, sounds eerily similar to the case of another Flair that we regularly see on Monday Night Raw these days…
