8 Reasons WWE Is Wrong To Ditch Single-Brand PPVs

6. Showcase Matches For Everyone

There's a world of difference between a TV wrestling match and a pay-per-view bout. On television, the focus is on keeping people's attention on the screen and trying to ensure they come back next week for the new episode. That is not true of PPVs, which are directed towards showcasing the best of in-ring action, rather than any of the backstage accoutrements.

Any WWE performer with aspirations of ascending to a meaningful position within the company will first have to prove themselves on the PPV stage. If they are not able to work a full-blooded match and tell a story within those confines, they are not going to succeed in WWE.

Without the space afforded by single-branded PPVs, it's going to be tough for these superstars to find their opportunity. There's going to be very little room outside of the title pictures and that doesn't leave a chance for the likes of Tye Dillinger, or even the hugely popular Rusev, to work a 10-15 minute match on a big stage.

In this crowded landscape, WWE's only option to give somebody a PPV bout is to push them into a title match, which is not always the best way to get a star over.
