8 Reasons WWE Is Wrong To Ditch Single-Brand PPVs
4. Room For The Women
The most laudable thing WWE has done in recent years is display enormous pride in its women's division. Many of the best female athletes in the world are employed by WWE and the 'Women's Evolution' has proven to be something far more valid and valuable than a PR-friendly slogan. WWE's women have competed in a Royal Rumble, a Money in the Bank ladder match and a Hell in a Cell bout, while the notion of women appearing in the main event segment of a show is no longer novel.
At this Sunday's Raw-exclusive event Elimination Chamber, there are set to be at least three major segments involving the brand's women. Six of the top contenders will battle for the Women's Championship inside the eponymous structure for the first time ever, while Nia Jax will fight the undefeated Asuka and megastar Ronda Rousey will formally sign her Raw contract.
It's difficult to imagine any pay-per-view featuring as many as three women's segments if there are two brands' worth of men to pack on to a show. WWE simply does not prioritise its female stars in that way and it's entirely possible that women's matches may once again be cut for time and shunted into graveyard slots.
