Wrestling fans love nothing more than hypothesising about the future, working out who will become a major player just in time to begin debating the generation after them. The Shield made such an impact on the WWE landscape that the three becoming top tier performers wasn’t even up for speculation; it was inevitable.

All three have gone on to win world championships, and will continue to spearhead the company moving into this brave new era, but there is still a vague ‘what could have been?’ about it all. The WWE needs its fans to be happy and nothing makes wrestling fans happier than trying to work out who is going to be on top going forward.

The Shield were the most exciting explosion of potential we’ve seen in WWE in years. There were a million different directions the company could have gone in with them post-split, all roads which would led to a huge WrestleMania main event worthy triple threat match down the line. WWE messed this up somewhat. A hard reset could be the remedy.
