8 Reasons WWE SummerSlam Will Be Better Than WrestleMania 31
5. 'Mania Had No Standout Classic, SummerSlam Could
WrestleMania 31 runs the risk of being a severely overrated show. In the weeks following, many heralded it one of the greatest 'Manias of all time, a claim which failed to take into account the lack of a bonafide classic. Sure, Lesnar vs Reigns was a masterful piece of storytelling topped off by a fantastic swerve, while the Intercontinental Championship ladder match was high-octane, Attitude-Era style carnage at its finest. But 'Mania 31 had no Steamboat vs Flair or Rock vs Austin, which in itself is fine; such matches only come once in a blue moon. But for an event heralded as one of the best WrestleManias ever, it really needed a spectacular display of wrestling to truly live up to such an accolade. SummerSlam, meanwhile, has the potential of a four or five-star classic lurking somewhere within its murky, incomplete card. Lesnar vs Taker disappointed in 2014, but it's hard to ever write off a performer as experienced and intelligent as the Deadman. John Cena, for all his well-documented flaws, knows how to deliver a fantastic match, especially when lined up against an opponent as talented as Seth Rollins. The most likely source of SummerSlam's standout match, however, could be a rumoured bout between Cesaro and Kevin Owens. The pair's shared indie pedigree is undoubtable, and a singles contest between the two could utterly blow the roof off the Barclays Center if given enough time.
