One of the greatest tragedies across both NXT Black & Gold and 2.0 is the mistreatment of the Grizzled Young Veterans. Whilst they were used on a frequent basis, it always felt like they had the potential to be the top of the tag team division for a long time if only they would be given the chance.

Not just superb in the ring, both Drake and Gibson knew how to be hateable and funny. From the legendary chants of “if you hate Gibson, shoes off” and Zach’s furious reactions to the absolutely bonkers golfing segments with LA Knight and Cameron Grimes; the pair showcased over and over again that they were a worthwhile commodity.

In July 2022, with the release of Harland, cult leader Joe Gacy needed some new muscle and who better than the Grizzled Young Veterans? Apparently…

All of the personality that Drake and Gibson had displayed over the last few years was gone and instead they were being asked to wear goofy contact lenses and speak in drones. A role any one of NXT’s up-and-comers could not only fit but possibly profit from, as opposed to an established tag team who found themselves spiralling back to the starting point.
