8 Recent WWE Repackagings That Were Doomed From Day One
3. Karrion Kross
Some of Karrion Kross’ last days in NXT centred around a story where the division’s other main eventers called his bluff. Yes, his entrance was impressive and he had a great aura about him… but he was merely on a hot streak and didn’t have the work rate to back it up. It was an interesting take, and allowed NXT to reflect Kross’ real world naysayers on TV to try and sway them with a convincing title retention.
When Kross came to Monday Night Raw he was diluted, his valet Scarlett was nowhere to be seen and his entire presence was completely different. All it served to do was give the NXT roster and his detractors validation of their criticisms.
The cheap BDSM gimp mask he was forced to wear didn’t help things either.
The current NXT Champion who, until that point had been undefeated on his own brand, lost to Jeff Hardy on his first night in 90 seconds. Fans were in uproar. What did veteran Hardy have to gain from this? What did this say about the NXT Championship? Whilst some expected this shock to turn into a longplay story, it became immediately obvious that WWE had no idea what they were doing with Kross.
Karrion Kross was released a few months later, before Vince McMahon could repackage him yet again. God only knows what that could’ve been.
