8 Second Generation Wrestlers' Favourite Legacy Matches
5. Cody Hall - Scott Hall
Cody Hall has or probably had a degree of promise in pro-wrestling. However, while he thankfully doesn’t have the demons his father had during his career highs, Cody has a reputation for controversy. In 2020, he left Japanese promotion DDT-Pro Wrestling after using twitter to make ill-advised jokes about the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, he was also signed to Major League Wrestling on 4 December 2020, only to be released from his contract the next day (!).
During a 2014 interview, Cody was asked to pick his favourite Scott Hall/Razor Ramon match. The first that came to mind was Hall vs. Kevin Nash at Halloween Havoc 1998:
"I was just watching it yesterday and it has such a good story, you know, for a match that only has a lot of punches in it. It’s really a great brawl, something I don’t usually like. So, if you haven’t seen that match, check it out."
While the story told between the ropes may have been compelling, the storyline that built around this clash is often cited among WCW’S worst creative efforts. It started as a standard 'betrayal between friends' plot, albeit one featuring two of the company’s biggest stars. Hall turned on his best friend, claiming he did it due to financial struggle – choosing “the Benjamins” over his chosen brother. This cumulated in the real-life exploitation of Hall’s spiralling alcoholism, and the crass ‘Last Call’ Scott Hall gimmick.
Cody also acknowledged his dad’s less divisive ladder matches opposite Shawn Michaels, praising HBK as a one-of-a-kind athlete.
