8 Second Generation Wrestlers' Favourite Legacy Matches
4. Charlotte - Ric Flair
Of all the second-generation superstars, Charlotte perhaps has the greatest experience of a wrestling legacy manifesting into a double-edged sword. While she has the great benefit of the experienced council of her legendary father, she is often subjected to cries of nepotism. Even now, when she has more than proven herself, fans will ask “but what if she wasn’t Ric Flair’s daughter?” every time she makes their fave tap.
Charlotte, though a proud daughter, spends little of her media time dissecting her famous father’s storied career – she has too much of her own success to dazzle with. Nevertheless, she references two of her father’s matches in relation to her own introduction to the world of wrestling.
The first was Flair’s clash with Vader at Starrcade 1993. Flair was successful in a Title Vs. Career match, keeping his job and gaining the WCW World Heavyweight Championship – all in front of his hometown crowd. Charlotte told WWE 24 that she’ll always have the memory of watching that match aged seven.
Another moment, which wrestling fans almost unanimously hold dear, was Flair’s retirement at the hands of Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XXIV. She recalled:
“[…] seeing 80,000 people at the Citrus Bowl emotionally pouring their hearts out watching my dad retire - I didn't even grasp what he meant to the industry. I didn't even fully grasp it until I started wrestling myself.”
