8 Second Generation Wrestlers' Favourite Legacy Matches

6. Brian Pillman Jr. - Brian Pillman

When AEW up-and-comer Brian Pillman Jr. was asked by Chris Van Vliet about his favourite Pillman Sr. match, he responded:

“I gotta go back, I gotta hit up my boy Marc Mero on this one. I love that match he had with Marc Mero. Look it up. I think it was like something Fall Brawl or something Fall Brawl 1993 maybe one of those brawls … I get all those old names mixed up because they just name everything brawl.”

Fortunately, unlike the put-on-the-spot Pillman, we have the benefit of Google to identify the match as Johnny B. Badd (Mero) Vs. Brian Pillman at WCW Fall Brawl 1995.

The two opened the pay-per-view with a #1 contender clash for the WCW United States Championship. The match was initially stopped at 20 minutes and declared a time limit draw. However, the two were allowed to continue until Badd scored a pin at 29:14 – making it the match the longest on the card.

Marc Mero too is in agreement with the younger Pillman, naming it as one of his personal favourite matches.

When you revisit Pillman’s in-ring work, its sheer quality is evident. It becomes a great shame it is largely overshadowed by the infamous “Pillman’s got a gun” angle – even if that moment was integral to the dawn of the Attitude Era.
