8 Second Generation Wrestlers' Favourite Legacy Matches
3. David Hart Smith – The British Bulldog
Davey Boy Smith’s induction into the Hall of Fame this year has been anticipated and desired for years. In discussing his father’s induction, son David Hart Smith was asked to reflect on his dad’s influence on British wrestlers. He reflected:
“[…] the amount of influence that my father had on the current and past WWE superstars like myself, and Wade Barrett, and current ones like Finn Bálor [...] he really influenced a lot of WWE superstars […] he was a household name. You could mention the British Bulldog and not even be a wrestling fan.”
The British Bulldog’s matches were as iconic as the man himself. On the Davey Boy Smith website, maintained by his family, a fan enquired about the family member’s favourite Davey Boy matches contested outside WWE or WCW.
His son recommended Davey Boy Smith & Johnny Ace vs. Super Generation Army (Kenta Kobashi & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi). The bout took place at AJPW Champion Carnival 1993 - Tag 19 on 17 April 1993. While at the time the answer was given this match was available on YouTube, this is no longer the case. Still, fans of Davey Boy’s work in the West should seek out his run in Japan as half of The British Bulldogs (a decent amount of content is currently available on YouTube).
