8 Second Generation Wrestlers' Favourite Legacy Matches

2. Dominik Mysterio – Rey Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio has largely escaped being beaten with accusations of nepotism, largely owing to how well he has been booked in WWE. Nobody has tried to hide that he is a (talented) rookie, often given the underdog role in matches and feuds. Pairing Dominik up with his father feels natural. The younger Mysterio is a pupil rather than a deadweight, having rejuvenated Rey’s on-screen role.

When recently asked during an interview on The Chris Van Vliet Show what his favourite Rey match was, he went on to name some of the more obvious choices such as his World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 22 and cruiserweight masterclass at Halloween Havoc 1997. However, the first match that came to mind was a surprising choice.

Dominik recalled he was a “big fan” of his father’s match against Fit Finlay at Cyber Sunday 2007. Fans voted for the two to clash in a Stretcher match (the other options were No Disqualification and Shillelagh on a Pole). The bout was an outlier in Rey’s overture – a brawl full of stiff strikes that favoured Finlay. A few highflying spots punctuated the action well and were enough to give Rey the win.
