8 Struggling WWE Stars Who Would Excel In NJPW
5. Sheamus
Sheamus has become an almost poisonous presence in WWE television. Angles like his Money in the Bank 2015 victory and the dead-end League of Nations stable looked to have ran Sheamus’ WWE career in the ground earlier this year, but the decline started a long time ago, and he’s become a wrestler that’s close to impossible to get behind.
The recent “Best of Seven” series with Cesaro has gone some way to reviving his fortunes, but it’s unlikely that Sheamus will ever make a full recovery. That’s a shame, because he’s fantastic in his role as a vicious, bullying brawler, and the quality of the Cesaro matches has had just as much to do with the Irishman as the Swiss Superman. He may have been booked into oblivion, but there’s nothing wrong with Sheamus’ in-ring skillset: he just lacks the ability to captivate an American audience long-term.
Regardless of the series’ conclusion, it’s hard to see where Sheamus goes next. He’s likely doomed to an eternity going round in circles through WWE’s midcard, and if he wants to be something bigger than that, he’ll likely have to leave the company. As with Swagger, his brutish style of wrestling would be more than welcome in NJPW.
Sheamus might be a direct product of WWE developmental, but he’s talented enough to make the necessary adjustments.
