8 Stupid WWE Gimmicks That Got Over Huge
2. Damien Mizdow
You've got to hand it to Damien Sandow. The guy tried his best to make everything he was given work, whether it was tagging with KC James for a short period in 2006, as the 'Intellectual Saviour of the Masses' or when he was doing the tired 'impersonation' gimmick.
It was during the impersonation gimmick that Sandow was hired by 'Hollywood superstar' The Miz to be his 'stunt double', which basically meant taking bumps for him. This soon grew to see Mizdow mimicking all of his employer's moves and mannerisms, even when he wasn't wrestling.
According to Sandow, he was unsure whether or not this role was going to be a one time thing or a long-term storyline. He has also made mention of the fact that he and Miz never rehearsed anything beforehand, at least in the beginning, and his decision to mimic Miz's actions and mannerisms was an on-the-fly piece of improvisation.
The gimmick got over and fans began to react favourable towards Mizdow. This popularity led to an inevitable split with The Miz and a match over the rights to The Miz's gimmick, which the former Real World star won, leading to Mizdown to revert back to the Damien Sandow moniker.
Considering that Mizdow was, in all likelihood, supposed to be a one-off deal, it grew into something huge, because - not in spite of - the fact it was so silly.
