Part of me feels that we're a little bit rosy when it comes to looking back at the singles WWE career of Umaga. The majority of his big event matches were fairly one dimensional, and whilst his character work was fantastic, his matches against CM Punk, Batista, and Lashley left a lot to be desired.

Umaga's matches against John Cena for the WWE Championship at the beginning of 2007 certainly weren't a disappointment however, and the Last Man Standing match between the two stands out in particular. The first half of the match was somewhat boring, but once they gained some momentum, the duo put on something special indeed.

Umaga was extremely convincing as the savage heel who will put his own body through misery to win, and it worked against him here as he attempted to splash Cena through a table only to have the desk all to himself.

The finish was awesome, helped immensely by an all-time classic call from Jim Ross. Umaga eventually passed out in a top rope-assisted STF, with JR stating that "even a monster's got to breathe".

Far and away the best match of Umaga's WWE career.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
