When Daniel Bryan retired earlier this year, wrestling became a slightly sadder place. Even so, it gave us a chance to breathe and look back on the impressive catalogue of matches Bryan had put together since arriving way back in 2010. We could remember classics against Bray Wyatt, CM Punk, Triple H, and the best match of Sheamus' career.

The match from Bryan's canon that sticks out above all others comes against John Cena however, in what was for a brief moment the crowning glory of Bryan's WWE career. Cena handpicked the leader of the Yes! Movement to be the challenger to his WWE Championship at SummerSlam, and Bryan managed to overcome both Cena and the tennis ball sized lump on his elbow.

It was Bryan's first real main event match in WWE, and the clean win over Cena legitimised him in the eyes of the casual audience. Of course, Randy Orton and Triple H conspired to ruin it all, but the 26 minutes prior were a joy to behold.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
