Styles said when he heard HBK was starting to spend time at the Performance Center, he wondered if the all-time great was starting to get that itch again, and inquired if anyone from the office had asked him if he was interested in doing something at Royal Rumble.

Kevin wondered the same, tossing out that he'd seen various things pop up on social media about a match between Shawn and AJ. “The Phenomenal One” proudly admitted to being responsible for planting those seeds, thinking the worst Michaels could do was say “no”.

HBK told AJ that he admires him and appreciated him keeping his name relevant, but clarifies that there’s one main difference this year from the previous ones since his retirement. While the subject of him returning is brought up every year by media and fans, this was the first time Vince McMahon himself approached Shawn and asked if he would come back for another match.

HBK stated that he told Vince he's aware Styles is incredibly talented, admitting he still wrestles with that part of his psyche that thinks about what an amazing performance the two could put on together. Nash vehemently agreed with his buddy and said he’s watched AJ for the better part of the last year, jokingly confessing he realized Styles he could even carry him to a great match.

It speaks volumes about Vince's opinion of AJ Styles that he actually made the effort to try and sell Michaels on working with him, which contradicts the typical IWC complaint that WWE doesn't appreciate his vast array of talent despite his booking over the past year indicating otherwise.
